Stree 2 box office collection Day 1: Akshay Kumar’s cameo surprised fans

Amar Kaushik directed the much-awaited sequel to the 2018 hit horror-comedy movie Stree. The sequel of Stree, i.e., Stree 2 has been released in theatres across the world on August 15, coinciding with Independence Day of India. 

The previous cast which includes Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi will reprise their roles in the sequel. As per reports, the film is estimated to have garnered around ₹54.35 crore on its opening day in India.

As per the industry tracker, Sacnilk, Stree 2 has minted Rs 46 crore in the Indian market on its opening day, Thursday, August 15. In addition to this, Shraddha Kapoor starrer earned Rs 8.55 crore in paid previews on Wednesday evening taking its total first-day collection to Rs 54.5 crore, the fourth-highest ever.

The huge performance by Stree 2 on its opening day left behind some really good movies in terms of opening day collection, including Hrithik Roshan’s War (Rs 53 crore), Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan (Rs 52 crore), Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 (Rs 44 crore), and Sunny Deol’s (Rs 40 crore).

Stree 2 Twitter Reaction

The movie has garnered positive responses, especially from fans who love the cameo of Akshay Kumar in the movie.

One of the X users who went to watch the movie wrote, “Stree 2 is the perfect blend of comedy & horror, you wouldn’t be able to control your laugh throughout the movie, and all the cameos are cherry on the cake.”

“Stree 2 is the perfect sequel one could ask for. Shraddha Kapoor looked so amazing in the movie,” wrote another.

Fans were surprised after seeing Akshay Kumar in the special cameo in Stree 2. Although, Akshay Kumar’s movies failed to perform at the box office in the last few months. However, some are even calling him the Thanos of Madock cinema.

Stree 2 stars Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana in the lead roles. It is the sequel to the 2018 hit movie Stree, The Stree movie has earned Rs 180 crore worldwide and a little above than Rs 100 crore net in India. The sequel should cross that figure in the opening weekend itself. Stree 2 is part of the larger Maddock Horror Universe, including the werewolf film Bhediya and the folk horror comedy Munjya.

Stree 2 outperformed despite tough competition from Akshay Kumar starrer Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa. The movie managed to hold it and bring in good business at the box office.
