After tariff hikes by all the major private telecom service providers, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has come into the limelight due to its economic tariff plans. Since the price hike, the state-owned BSNL has continuously made efforts to place itself among the market leaders.

BSNL is now working on 5G networks. The Department of Telecommunications has shared a video on X  where Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia could be seen testing BSNL 5G through a live video call.

The DoT shared the video and wrote a caption that reads,  “Successful testing of BSNL #5G enabled video call.”

Scindia visited the Center for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) at the C-DOT campus in New Delhi on Saturday. The video of testing the network hints that BSNL is working to introduce 5G services for its subscribers in India.

In another video, Scindia mentions that installation of 80,000 towers will ensure that 4G networks will reach mobile phones in October 2024. Over 1,00,000 towers will ensure 4G services by March. The government is working hard to make sure that BSNL 5G can be deployed. Soon, over 1,00,000 will ensure 5G connectivity on the core. ‘

Reports claim that the 4G network system is expected to be available in the next 6-12 months. The exact date and time about the launch of wider 4G and 5G services across the country. The 5G trails are expected to begin in limited locations for now in the national capital (Connaught Place, IIT Campus, JNU Campus, Sanchar Bhavan, and India Habitat Center), IIT Hyderabad, parts of Gurugram and some government establishments as well in Bangalore.

The BSNL subscribers are gaining momentum as private telecoms such as Airtel, Jio, and Vodafone Idea (Vi) have surged in their prepaid and postpaid plans. Hence people are searching for some alternatives and BSNL seems more attractive now.
