Nayar, to join head coach Gambhir as assistant coach

According to reports, former Indian all rounder Abhishek Nayar and Netherlands all rounder Ryan ten Doeschate will join team India as assistant coaches for the Sri Lankan tour which will take place from July 27, 2024. 

 

Nayar and Doeschate will accompany newly joined head coach Gautam Gambhir, who recently parted away with Kolkata Knight Riders to join as Team India head coach. Gambhir has recently helped KKR to lift the IPL 2024 trophy.

 

According to ESPNcricinfor, former South African fast bowler, Morne Morkel, was approached by BCCI to join as India’s new bowling coach. Morkel had earlier worked with Gambhir at Lucknow Super Giants and Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20, where Gambhir served as the global mentor. 

 

Vinay Kumar, former India and Karnataka timer was also in the candidature list, but Morne Morkel is the leading candidate.

 

Currently, team India is focusing on its upcoming series against Sri Lanka, which is the first assignment of Gautam Gambhir and his support staff. The series will take place on July 27, 2024.

 

Abhishek Nayar has played three ODI matches for team India and has won multiple Ranji Trophy titles with Mumbai Indians. He has played over 100 first-class matches and has scored over 5500 runs 13 centuries and 32 half-centuries. Even when Nayar was an active player, he mentored Dinesh Kartik and guided him to revive his International career who made a brilliant comeback thereafter. 

 

Recently, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy also praised Nayar after winning their first IPL title in the last 10 seasons. He also has worked as Trinbago Knight Riders head coach in Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

 

While ten Doeschate is currently with Los Angeles Knight Riders in the USA Major League Cricket as an assistant to head coach Phil Simmons. He also has experience as a batting coach at Kent.
