Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory Amid Independence Day Rehearsal

The New Delhi Traffic Police released a traffic advisory for Tuesday, August 13, 2024, due to the upcoming Independence Day celebration. The advisory for major road closures and diversions especially the Red Fort area, due to the rehearsal for the Independence Day event.

Commuters who are planning to visit the following areas should plan their trips accordingly as the key roads are inaccessible from 4 am to 10 am on that day.

To avoid any last-minute rush and inconvenience computers are advised to plan their trip in advance. All Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) are advised to get their essential things before 10 pm on August 12 to ensure smooth access to necessities during the road closures. 

The following roads will remain shut for general traffic from 4:00 AM to 10:00 AM on August 13, 2024, and only labeled vehicles will be permitted:

• Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail.
• Lothian Road from GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail.
• S.P. Mukherjee Marg from H.C. Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk.
• Chandni Chowk Road from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort.
• Nishad Raj Marg from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg.
• Esplanade Road and its Link Road to Netaji Subhash Marg.
• Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT.
• Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover (Salimgarh Bypass).

What are the roads to avoid from 4 am to 10 am August 13, 2024?

Vehicles without parking labels for the rehearsal should avoid:

NORTH-SOUTH ACCESS: Alternatives For This Route

Alternative 1:

Aurobindo Marg – Safdarjung Road – Kamal Ataturk Marg – Kautilya Marg – S.P. Marg – 11 Murti – Mother Teresa Crescent – Park Street – Mandir Marg – Panchkuian Road – Rani Jhansi Road to reach North Delhi and vice-versa.

Alternative 2:

Connaught Place – Minto Road – Bhavbhuti Marg – Ajmeri Gate – Shradhanand Marg – Lahori Gate Chowk – Naya Bazar – Peeli Kothi – S.P. Mukherjee Marg up to ODRS to reach North Delhi and vice-versa.

Alternative 3:

Nizamuddin Bridge to cross Yamuna – Pushta Road – G.T. Road and cross Yudhister Setu to ISBT to reach North Delhi.

EAST-WEST ACCESS

• NH-24 (NH-9) – Nizamuddin Khatta – Barapullah Road – under AIIMS Flyover – Ring Road.
• DND – Barapulla Road as per 1 above OR via Ashram on Ring Road & proceed accordingly.
• NH-24 (NH-9) – Nizamuddin Khatta – Ring Road – Bhairon Road – Mathura Road – Subrahmanyam Bharti Marg – Rajesh Pilot Marg – Prithviraj Road – Safdarjung Road – Kamal Ataturk Marg – Panchsheel Marg – SP Marg/Ridge Road accordingly and vice-versa.
• Vikas Marg – IP Marg – DDU Marg – Minto Road then either via Connaught Place or Ajmeri Gate – DBG Road & proceed further.
• Pusta Road (Shastri Park) – GT Road – Yudhister Setu – ISBT Kashmiri Gate and proceed via Ring Road or Rani Jhansi Road.
• DND – NH24 (NH9) – Yudhister Setu Signature Bridge – Wazirabad Bridge will remain open to reach Ring Road.
• Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge towards Shanti Van will be closed

Commercial Transport and Interstate Buses Movements are Restricted

• Goods vehicles will not be permitted between Nizamuddin Khatta and Wazirabad Bridge from Midnight of 12.08.2024 to 11:00 AM on 13.08.2024.
• Interstate buses will also be prohibited between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT from Midnight of 12.08.2024 to 11:00 AM on 13.08.2024.

RESTRICTIONS ON THE MOVEMENT OF CITY BUSES APART FROM RESTRICTED ROADS

• Local city buses, including DTC, will not operate on Ring Road from 12:00 Midnight of 12.08.2024 to 10:00 AM on 13.08.2024 between ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Ring Road – NH-24(NH-9)/NH ‘T’ point (Nizamuddin Khatta). They should make available alternative routes.
• The following roads will also be closed for Inter City/DTC buses from 12:00 Midnight of 12.08.2024 to 10:00 AM on 13.08.2024:
• Lothian Road from Chhatta Rail Chowk to Kashmiri Gate (Boulevard Road).
• Netaji Subhash Marg from Chhatta Rail Chowk to Delhi Gate.
• Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Marg.
• Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta (NH-24) and Northern loop of ISBT Kashmiri Gate.
• ‘C’ Hexagon, Shershah Road, Dr Zakir Hussain Road, Pandara Road, Shahjahan Road, Akbar Road, Rajpath, Ashoka Road, KG Marg, Copernicus Marg, Tilak Marg, Purana Quila Road, Sikandra Road, Bhagwan Dass Road and BSZ Marg.
• Ashoka Road from R/A Windsor Place to ‘C’ Hexagon.
• KG Marg from Ferozeshah Road to ‘C’ Hexagon.
• Vikas Marg, beyond loop towards Delhi Secretariat.
• Mathura Road from Ashram Chowk to W Point.
• Buses ordinarily terminating at Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Main Railway Station will be curtailed/diverted as below:
• Opposite Ramlila Ground on J.L.N. Marg for buses approaching from South and West Delhi.
• At Mori Gate and Tis Hazari for buses coming from North, North West via Barafkhana, and East Delhi via ISBT Bridge.
• At Boulevard Road opposite Maharaja Agrasen Park for buses coming from the North Delhi side from Ring Road.

OLD DELHI RAILWAY STATION

• From West and South Delhi: Mother Teresa Crescent – Park Street – Mandir Marg – Panchkuian Road – Rani Jhansi Flyover – Azad Market – Boulevard Road – Mori Gate – Pul Dufferin – S.P. Mukherjee Marg or Dhaula Kuan – Ridge Road (Vande Matram Marg) – Faiz Road – Rani Jhansi Road & thereafter as above.
• From North: Mori Gate – Pul Dufferin – S.P. Mukherjee Marg.
• From East/North East: Pusta Road – Yudhister Setu – Mori Gate – Pul Dufferin – S.P. Mukherjee Marg then proceeded further accordingly.

NEW DELHI RAILWAY STATION

• From East: Vikas Marg – DDU Marg – Bhavbhuti Marg – ND Railway Station.
• From North East: Yudhister Setu – Rani Jhansi Road – R/A Rani Jhansi – DBG Road and reach ND Railway Station accordingly OR via Mori Gate – Pul Dufferin – SP Mukherjee Marg – Qutab Road.

• From West Delhi: Pusa Road – R/A Hanuman Mandir – Faiz Road – Rani Jhansi Road.
• From North Delhi: There is no restriction.
• From North-East Delhi: Yudhister Setu – Boulevard Road – Mori Gate – Pul Dufferin – SP Mukherjee Marg – Old Delhi Railway Station.

KASTURBA HOSPITAL

Ajmeri Gate – Ajmeri Bazar – Chowk Hauz Quazi – Chawri Bazar – Chowk – Barshabullah – Urdu Bazar.
